Or they may ignore me, but at least I have a chance to voice my opinion. Or, they may see an opportunity to develop a game that would appeal to me. ![]() So, if there is something I do not like about a game, I am telling the developer what I do not like and, if they listen, they may change that part in the next game(s). You may have noticed that there is no shortage of 5 star reviews on this site. Sales are the bottom line, but developers do not want poor reviews because they discourage sales. Second - and this is just as important - developers read and pay attention to the reviews. However, when I have on my "reviewer's hat" I play on to write a complete review.įirst, my reviews are not for my benefit, they are for other players to help them:ī) become aware of something they may have missed, orĬ) experience a different interpretation of the same facts. Other times, just the screen shots on the main page were enough. Many times I've known before the opening cut scene is over that I will not like or purchase the game. If the only people they hear from are saying how great a game is they will be hearing from an ever dwindling number of people while wondering why no one is downloading their games anymore. ![]() I posted about what I liked and disliked hoping the developer would listen and maybe add the ability to turn off the custom cursor in their next game.ĭevelopers need negative as well as positive reviews to improve their games and make sales to more people. For example, I love the recently released Alice game but it had some issues that I didn't like. To (hopefully) share with developers so that they can improve their games and ultimately their sales. It lets them know this is a game they have a strong chance of liking.Ģ. Just because I happen to like a lot of HOS doesn't make my review saying a game has only one HOS in the demo of no value to those who merely tolerate them because they love Adventure games. Some people are going to say "blah" and not bother with it and others are going to say "yay!" and hit the trial button. For example, I could mention a game has very few HOS. ![]() To share with other players so they can avoid wasting time on something they won't like or so they can eagerly download something they like that I happen not to. If I do demo a game and don't like it I post an honest review and I do so for two reasons:ġ. You won't find a single review from me on Marble games, for example, because I don't like that type of game. There are some genres of game that I do know I don't like so I don't bother even trying them. Ultimately it's the owner/admin who has responsibility for how their forum "feels" to members.įor me the whole point of trialing a game is because I don't know if I will like it. Moderators can only act within the role the admin allots them. That isn't a directive from the 's a directive from the administrators/owners who are also present in their forum paying attention to what's going on. Other forums I've been to don't let an issue like that get so far along that long term members leave because of it. Long time members are complaining so it's obviously a real issue. In the short time I've been here this complaint stands out as a characteristic feature of the place. On the other hand, other forums I've been to ban people for bullying so you don't see the litany of complaints about bullies that I've seen at this one. Kudos to them indeed for keeping up with all of that. ![]() In the case of these moderators, I'm guessing they are paid employees who have other tasks as well. Also, moderators can only moderate to the degree which the site allows. I definitely sympathize with the mods here because this is a large site and that makes it tough to have eyes everywhere. I go to other gaming forums and I have experience being a forum moderator myself. Cbtx wrote:Your knowledge of forums in general ("that's how most forums work"), and this one in particular ("This is a pretty poorly run forum"), and your criticism of the mods ("by now a moderator familiar with the persons involved should have stepped in") seems quite extensive.
